Dear Friends and Colleagues,

We will have a Health, Medicine, and Biotech related round-table discussion meeting on the 17th day of July, a much requested meeting over the past few months. We will have two discussion leaders, both well-known to the local high-tech Chinese entrepreneur community in the Great Boston area. They will lead us a fun night on subjects ranging from hot areas in biosciences to the practical matters on drug registration and approval in China. Their brief CVs are in the attachment.

Topic 1: Prelude to drug discovery: New faces, Same old stories
Leader: Prof. Weiming Xia, Harvard Medical School

The underlying theme of the discussion will be the exploration of
preclinical research and development, with emphasis on the application of new technologies. We will discuss the following topics, systems biology, genomics and proteomics, whole-genome association, qPCR, antibody development, personalized medicine, and illustrate their application in target identification, validation, assay development, hits to lead, lead optimization and subsequent preclinical tests. These applications will be exemplified by the development of several drugs that are under clinical trials for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease.

Topic 2: Application of Science and Technology Grants, and
Registration and Approval of Drug and Medical Devices in China
Leader: Prof. Feng Chen, former Director of the Office of Management, Center for Drug Evaluation, at the State Food and Drug Administration, and Associate Professor at the Department of Life Sciences at The National Natural Science Foundation of China.
